When it comes down to it, life isn’t perfect! We all know it, yet we rarely show it. We only share our good days and best profile pictures on Facebook. We only blog about our achievements, never our failures. We only instagram pretty things and the good moments, never the not-so-good blah days. And on the web, it starts to look like everyone has a perfect life!
In honor of stepping into my authenticity, I have to say that I don’t want to pretend life is perfect. Yes, I’m guilty of only sharing the shiny pretty happy things online too, but I will be the first one to tell you that there is more to the story. There are bad days. There are ‘ugly days’. There are fights. There is stress beyond belief. Lately, there are dirty diapers and spit-up…lots of spit-up. There are weeks, I don’t get out of yoga pants for days in a row. There are tears (baby’s and mine!). There is an inconsistent work-life balance. There are bills. There are pants that don’t fit. There are struggles. There are broken appliances. And just a whole lot of yuck mixed in there sometimes. It’s all there. It’s real, it happens. It’s life.
But (and it’s a big ‘but’ here!), just because life isn’t perfect, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate what we DO have and what IS perfect in our lives. So, even though my Instagram feed might be filled with shiny sparkly baubles, far too many glasses of champagne, and endless photos of my precious baby boy…it doesn’t mean I’m trying to pretend I have the most perfect life. You and I both know that is not all there is. But, at the end of the day…life is good. It may not be perfect, but it is pretty darn good! And that is something worth celebrating and remembering! Just because life isn’t perfect, I won’t take for granted all the good I have in my life. From baby cuddles that make my heart sing to the wonderful company of good friends to a coveted date night with the love of my life to getting to do what I truly love to the small indulgence of a perfectly chilled glass of wine at the end of a long day, there is a lot of good to be had! So, here’s to celebrating that!
