Before we moved into our house last summer we joked about what we would do with all the rooms…going from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 5 bedroom house sounds like you are going to have a mansion on your hands. What ever would we do with all that space?! Katrina’s cousin jokingly suggested that I use one of the spare bedrooms across the hall from our master bedroom as a walk-in closet…the idea immediately felt like heaven to me, but I knew I should try to reign in my ridiculous fashionista ways before it drove my spouse positively crazy, so I laughed it off and just stuffed all of my stuff into the tiny closet I was alloteed in our bedroom.
But, then…I think God intervened on my behalf, because not even 2 weeks into living in our new house…my closet completely collapsed! (If you ask my former roommates that will attest that this is a common problem for me, eeek…) Not knowing how to fix it right away and having experienced this particular problem before, I just pulled out some clothes racks from storage and loaded them up with all my stuff. Unintentionally, the spare room across the hall quickly became my walk-in closet!!! (Happy dance!) I swear I didn’t plan this!

The closet in the room was just for shoes, boots, and accessories. The clothes racks lined the wall with all my clothes. And a broken rigged hanging mirror sat propped against the wall for about a year. (Classy, I know, but it worked!) You see…having a walk-in closet room across the hall from your bedroom is absolutely a dream, but glamourous, it was not! Because I knew that this dream would have to come to an end one day, I never decorated or designed the room as such. It was organized and spacious for all my stuff but a bit haphazard and in a constant state of being ‘just a temporary solution’. So, sadly, the time has come….not to make it into my dream closet, complete with a round oversized tufted ottoman in the middle and built in handbag storage units (Oh, believe me, I have put a lot of daydreaming into this!), but to make it back into a guest room. Wah-wah…it’s a sad thing to have to face, but it must be done.
So, today, I am putting out a call for help! Any California Closet guru’s out there or organizational geniuses, I need your advice! How on earth do I make my hot mess of a walk-in closet fit into one small closet in our bedroom?! I fear it isn’t humanly possible to store all my shoes, boots, dresses, and sparkly bits without having an entire room for them! Is it doable?! I would love any miracle storage tips you might have! This is a Closet 911, so share away!

I actually had to call California Closets to make all my stuff fit. And it still doesn’t.
Dressers. Lots of dressers.
Oh goodness! But boots and things don’t fit in dressers! :0
Ummmm I don’t know how you’re going to pull this off. But if you do – let me know! haha Because my closet needs help too!
get some cute old suitcases, use those as nightstands in the guest bedroom and store your off season clothes in them. Your guests wont need a TON of closet space so you can still store some of your boots and shoes in there just buy clear shoe storage totes which are better anyways because then you can easily see what shoes you want to grab. Also get some under bed storage drawers (with wheels) for sweaters and more casual clothes like workout gear, no sense in taking up closet or drawer space for those.
The sad part is I already have some vintage suitcases filled with stuff in the walk-in closet room…maybe I need MORE! Eeek! I should get those under the bed things! Thanks for the idea! I haven’t had those since my college dorm room days..wish I saved them!
Chaz and I dont have a closet or a dresser in our bedroom, Baileys room has a closet but its full of clothes chaz refuses to get rid of from highschool so I have to be quite creative with storing my clothes haha
Girlfriend I’m with you! I see a huge purge in my near future.
