When Fleur announced their workshop collaboration with Layers of Loveliness, I was sold on it in a heartbeat!! I have been wanting to take a floral design class for years(!) and, at the same time, have wanted to further my recently attempted amateur calligraphy skills, so it was the perfect combination! Not to mention, Miya of Layers of Loveliness is so incredibly talented that I absolutely could not pass up a chance to learn from her! (Have you seen all the pretty hand lettering/calligraphy on THIS wedding?!) And with Janessa at the helm of floral design classes at Fleur, I knew SO. MUCH. PRETTY. awaited me! You guys, this workshop did not disappoint in the slightest! I walked in half asleep and bedraggled from a double header wedding weekend, but once we got going, I was wide awake and inspired, wanting to soak up every ounce of it!

The first half with Miya was all about focus, concentration, and the techniques of beautiful modern calligraphy. I absolutely loved that Miya encouraged making your calligraphy your own! Especially since my calligraphy skills have a long way to go…and making the letters into my own more doable versions allowed me to feel successful while still learning and trying my best. And the second half of the workshop with Janessa was an incredible floral explosion that I seriously could not get enough of! (I’m 100% hooked on the art of floral design now!) Learning the basic principles of good floral design, but also getting to be creative and free with the design of our floral pieces was so wonderfully fun! Everyone’s work looked different and I loved that!
I have to say…getting to spend a rainy Sunday holed up in Fleur’s lovely shop, learning something new, playing with all the pretty, exploring new outlets for creativity, and noshing on yummy Bang Bang pies in between was pretty much the most perfect Sunday I can imagine! I can’t wait to get back for another class!
