Not-So-Spaghetti Night and Everyday Routines

Now, that we are becoming more of a normally functioning household with the spouse actually home in the evenings, I am determined to get back to my lifelong goal (or struggle) of cooking on a semi-regular basis. When it was just me, on my own, every night, it seemed like far too much work to cook for just one person. But, now that it is the both of us, I want to really make the effort to get into that routine. As simple and mundane as it may seem, the routine of sitting down to home cooked dinners together and going on ‘family walks’ with the puppies has never sounded so exciting to me.

When you haven’t had the luxury of such simple pleasures for a long time, the normalcy and consistency of such routines are so very comforting. And I couldn’t have been more excited for the spouse to get home from work last night to have our first ‘Not-So-Spaghetti Night’. (There are no actual spaghetti noodles involved, since the spouse is more of a penne lover, but the general idea is there.) It may not be the most complex or fancy of meals, but I’m married to a meat and potatoes kind of gal, so I’m limited in what I can actually get her to eat. And such a simple meal was a great way to break me back into this whole cooking thing. I have to say, it felt so good to actually sit down to a meal together, using real plates, with candles lit on the dining room table, and the whole shebang! Talking about our days, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. It really is the simple things in life. And I am loving every second of getting into these everyday routines, where quality time with my love is at the heart of it!
