Things I Love: DIY Mercury Glass

quick payday loans with small commissions

I took some time out today to work on some projects for my own upcoming wedding…finally! We are two months out from the big day and I’m quite stressed to report that my to do list has yet to get any smaller, only bigger. So, yesterday afternoon, I tackled a super easy project: Mercury Glass Votives! This was originally a Martha project and when I came across it, the simplicity of it appealed to me right away. Our wedding has a bit of a ‘vintage glamour’ vibe and old looking silvered votives seemed very fitting for the tables. All you need to create mercury glass is some Krylon Looking Glass Mirror Spray Paint, a spray bottle filled with water, and whatever glass item your heart desires to DIY into mercury glass!

So, Maybe and I hunkered down on the back porch with about 75 clear glass votives and 1 rawhide bone (Note: A rawhide bone is only a necessary supply if your assistant is a puppy!). The process is quite simple: Cover the outside of glass container with craft paper (I took the liberty of skipping this step! Your life just got even easier.) Lightly spray the inside of container with water. Spray inside of container with mirror paint in sweeping motions. Turn containers over on drying rack (or inside a cardboard box, in my case) to let air circulate and dry. Repeat until desired effect is achieved. Ta-da!!! How easy is that?!

Supplies:

Process: Spritz with water, Spray with mirror spray, Turn over to dry, Repeat.

Results: Dazzling mercury glass-esque votives and a restless assistant!

Yay! What DIY project are you currently loving? Please feel free to share! I would love to make some pretty props for upcoming styled shoots.
